Tucked within the remains of an ancient volcano on the Banks Peninsula, Akaroa is a town where nature, history, and culture come together in breathtaking harmony. Its sparkling bays, rolling green hills, and lively harbour make it one of New Zealand’s most enchanting coastal escapes.
Harbour magic: Our bay sits inside an ancient volcanic crater, which is why the headlands and water feel so cinematic. WorldAtlas
Wildlife you’ll remember forever: Akaroa is one of the best places to see Hector’s dolphins, the world’s smallest and rarest, plus penguins and seals.
A touch of France: From patisseries to street names, the town’s French heritage adds a unique flavour to every wander.
If you’re planning a South Island escape, let Newton Heights be your quietly luxurious base to soak up the views, taste the local flavours, and get out on the water to meet our famous dolphins.

Our recent stay at Newton Heights B&B was the highlight of our three-week tour of South Island. The owner/hosts Brendon and Gail are engaging and gracious, their architecturally designed home is stunning and comfortable and the breakfast (complete with barista quality coffee choices) was abundant and divine. Beautiful views over Akaroa Harbour and easy walking distance to the village. Simply perfect in all regards!

This review may sound a little extreme however as a B&B experience this is a "must do". It's not just the joy de la vive of the welcoming hosts Gail and Brendan or the views from all corners of their beautiful home. Its not just the spa pool, the conversation, the silence as required, the comfort, cleanliness and fab breakfast its the feeling you've walked into the true warmth of an Akaroa experience - it was unforgettable!
